What is dimmer switch?

Dimmer, just as its name implies, is the kind of device that connected to a light bulb, using to adjust the brightness and to be the switch of light. Generally speaking, in our daily life, dimmer is specially designed and used for incandescent, halogen, and dimmable LED lamps.

The Benefit of dimmers
  1. For Environment:
The most important reason to choose dimmer is to save energy and protect the environment. Different activities require different brightness of light. When using dimmer switch to adapt to the activity you take part in, it can decrease the amount of light to some extent.
Therefore, with the change of brightness, you will use less power which means greatly saving energy consumption, and lower the subsequent cost. Furthermore, potentially reducing pollution produced by power plants.
However, please pay attention to such kind of saving is depend on the amount of dimmer involved and the brightness of dimming.
  1. For Light Bulbs:
Using dimmer can help you extend the lamps’ life span. The led dimmer switch saves energy by reducing the current of the bulb and allows the lamp to operate at a lower power output. Since the light works with lower pressure to illuminate, the dimmer can extend the life span of the bulb. This indicates that you will not have to replace the lamps as often.
  1. For people
Choosing dimmer can help you create an comfortable atmosphere. When you are in your bedroom, dim down the light to an cosy ambience helps you relieve fatigue and fall asleep quickly quickly; when you are having dinner, the brightness of light can make the food more delicious and create a romantic atmosphere, just as you are in a five-star restaurant; when you are studying, dim up the dimmer can help you more concentrated!

Dimming principle
  1. Traic Dimming
Traic dimming is developed in the dimming technology of incandescent lamps and is applied to dimming methods of incandescent lamps and energy-saving lamps. Because incandescent lamps and halogen lamps are a pure resistance device, it does not require the input voltage to be a sine wave, because its current waveform is always the same as the voltage waveform, so no matter how the voltage waveform deviates from the sine wave, just change the effective value of the input voltage. It can be dimmed.
Its working principle is to produce a tangential output voltage waveform after the input AC voltage waveform is chopped through the conduction angle. Applying the principle of tangential direction, the effective value of the output voltage can be reduced, thereby reducing the power of the ordinary load (resistive load).
  1. Linear Dimming
Linear dimming is mainly based on the simple pressure separation principle, simply, using the flow size of LED during transmission to control the sensitivity of lights.
  1. PWM Dimming
PWM (Pulse Width Modulation), also known as digital dimming. The on time of the forward current is changed by PWM wave on and off LED to achieve the effect of brightness regulation.
